I went to Rohnert Park in California to take photos of butterflies. I was searching for caterpillars, specifically the Pipevine swallowtail (Battus philenor ). I found some of them feeding on pipevines, their host plant. As you can see from the images, the butterfly and larva appear strikingly different in color. The Pipevine swallowtail resides within riparian habitats, in this case, Copeland Creek.
